Process parameter optimisation for manufacturing porous bioactive silicate glass microspheres via flame spheroidisation: The goldilocks effect
نویسندگان
چکیده
This study investigated the influence of flame spheroidisation process parameters for successfully manufacturing solid (dense) and highly porous microspheres from Food Drug Administration approved bioactive 45S5 glass with addition viscosity modifiers (i.e. 2 5 mol% borax V2O5), compared against processed phosphate (termed P40). Characterisation studies performed included thermal analysis (SDT), measurements using high temperature rotational viscometry hot stage microscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive analysis. revealed that aside intrinsic material properties melt profiles), including starting particle size, cooling rate gas flow rates were important factors in achieving desired microsphere morphology. Considering above influential factors, a processing model has been proposed manufacture silicate glasses.

Phosphate Glass Porous Microspheres for Bone Tissue Regeneration Applications
The interest in use of Calcium phosphate (CaP) based glasses as resorbable implantable devices has been steadily increasing due to their unique properties, such as their chemical compositions which can resemble the mineral content of natural bone, controllable degradation profiles coupled with controlled ion release rates and their cytocompatibility [1]. This work focussed on developing both bu...

متن کاملOptimizing the Processing of Porous Melt-Derived Bioactive Glass Scaffolds
We were able to produce the first ever meltderived bioactive glass scaffold that met the requirement of an ideal bone scaffold by using the gel-cast foaming process and a new glass composition. However, initially a small fraction of sodium potassium sulfate crystals formed during processing. The purpose of this work was to study and prohibit the growth of those crystals, which was the result of...
متن کاملCharacterizing the hierarchical structures of bioactive sol-gel silicate glass and hybrid scaffolds for bone regeneration.
Bone is the second most widely transplanted tissue after blood. Synthetic alternatives are needed that can reduce the need for transplants and regenerate bone by acting as active temporary templates for bone growth. Bioactive glasses are one of the most promising bone replacement/regeneration materials because they bond to existing bone, are degradable and stimulate new bone growth by the actio...
